Ready, Steady, Go!

Simone says, hi internet!

It's been a little over a week since she was born, and the number one question I have been asked is do I feel any different, or phrased another way, do I know how much my life has changed. As if a lightning bolt had reached down from the sky and thumped me on the head, transforming me into, I don't know, Insta-Dad. If I were a clueless teenager, or someone just showed up on my doorstep and said, "hey, this is your daughter", these kinds of questions would have a reasonable context. Getting married had more of an instantaneous affect on me. Other than an increased urgency about getting on top of my financial responsibilities, I am the same man I was a year ago when we decided to have a child.

I'm no expert. Fatherhood is a new journey for me, one that I am fortunate to be accompanied with by my wife, family, and an abundance of friends. I am also fortunate enough to walk this new path with some life experience under my hat, and lessons learned from watching others mistakes. I'm sure I'll make my share of mistakes, hopefully not many big ones. Who knows how things will turn out, but I will do everything I can to help this new little person to grow strong and healthy. Yes, she will change the rest of my life, but I am only thunderstruck by the mystery and adventure of what is to come. But that's the way of everyday life, isn't it?

Say Hello to My Little Friends...

Meet the Pretty Girl and the Old Man:

These are our dogs. I love them dearly, but if they did anything like the dog in this story, I might not be as forgiving:

Do I have reason to be concerned? I don't think so. They're both generally well behaved. They're not always great with other dogs but that's because they're both guard dog varieties. The dog in that story is basically a tamed wolf. Nevertheless, precautions need to be taken. Pretty Girl is already signed up for an update to her obedience training, and Old man is so well behaved that I'm not sure what else we can do with him. What does the internet have to say?

eHow has a good list of reasonable preparations: (Although I'm not enthusiastic about the baby-doll solution)

I also like Pregnancy.org's advice on bringing the baby home:

We'll see how it goes.

It's official...

I promise I won't be one of those insufferable dads always shoving pictures of the kid in your face, saying, isn't that adorable, but here's our little seedlet:
